Exclusive Interview With Boston Singer Hannah Rae About Her New EP The Surface

Image may contain: 1 person

The moment that you hear Hannah Rae’s voice you a transported into a world that you believe is a better place. Her gentle tone along with beautiful guitar playing is so beautiful and calming. In a way she reminds me a bit of Tori Kelly, but she is also so unique and original. The way that she performs and puts together her execution of the song, it’s different than the typical music you hear on the radio today. In reality it is a breath of fresh air.

I have been following Hannah’s career for quite some time now. Luckily for me, I actually went to high school with Hannah so I have been able to see her grow more confident with her talents and see her believe in herself the way others believe in her.

Hannah released her first big music project, an EP titled The Surface, at the beginning of January 2017. It is available on Itunes and Amazon, where it already has a 5 star rating.

Before you read the questions that she so graciously answered, be sure to follow her on Twitter and Facebook, along with check out more songs available on her Soundcloud account!

1. Who are you biggest musical influences?

“That’s a tough question! I have a lot and it’s funny because a lot of the music I listen to, doesn’t reflect my style of music. I would have to say the main influence is my favorite band, Paramore. I know that’s different. I grew up listening to many different genres of music, but when I discovered them, I was 11 and was in total awe. Hayley Williams was the reason I began singing. I saw their music video for their song, ‘Pressure’ and I remember thinking, “Holy crap. That’s amazing. She’s so badass and I’m going to do that one day.””

2. What inspired you to write the song “The Surface”?

“Surface was a song that I wrote a little over a year ago about a guy. Hella cheesy, I know. I was so infatuated by him and he made me feel like I was walking on clouds, I had to get my feelings out and the best way I knew how was through writing a song! I thought it was romantic and he liked it a lot when I played it for him.”

3. There are a few covers on your EP, why did you choose those specific songs to cover?

“I chose “Yellow” because I love Coldplay. They give me all the feels and I just wanted a slow jam on the track list and “Yellow” gives you just that. I chose “Wild Things” because I absolutely adore Alessia Cara and her music. She’s such a dope artist and that song really puts me in a great mood!”

4. When you write, do you have a specific place you like to write?

“I like to write in my bedroom or sometimes the beach. I need a place that’s quiet. I like an environment that gives me peace.”

5. Who would be your dream collaboration?

“There are way, way too many. Paramore, of course! Tori Kelly, Alessia Cara, Brendon Urie from Panic! At The Disco. There’s a lot of talented artists in today’s modern music and I would love to collaborate with all of them. In all genres too!”

6. How has music changed your life?

“Music has been my saving grace for as long as I can remember. I can’t even remember specifically when I was like, “Wow, I love music and I wanna pursue this the rest of my life.” It’s been a passion of mine since forever and it’s my entire happiness. There’s a lot of disconnect in the world and the only thing that seems to connect people, is music. It’s a community and it brings people together, makes people understand. It lives through me and I don’t think I will ever be able to describe how much it’s kept me going in my life.”

7. What is your all time favorite song?

“I have too many! As of right now though, I am really digging Kehlani’s music. She’s a dope R&B singer. I’m seeing her in February live and I’m so hyped about it!”

8. On the entire album, what lyric stands out most? What one means the most?

“You are stronger than you think you are, keep your heart of gold among the stars.” Or “You don’t know how much you grow when you let go.” Both are from “Lessons Learned”. Both have pertained to my life recently and there’s nothing more true than those lyrics I wrote. There’s not anything in life you cannot accomplish or overcome as long as you are true to yourself and do what’s right, once you learn how to do that, it gets easier to let go of the bad and toxic negativity that’s holding you back. I’m just a small girl, only 5′, from Boston with big dreams. I love music and if I’m not doing that, I’m probably at a show seeing other musicians. And if I’m not doing that, I’m probably at home in bed napping and eating food. This was my first big musical project and I was anxious to start. I had never recorded anything this in depth before and I knew it was going to be challenging, but I was ready to take it on. I wanted to do this album for not just myself, but so my friends and family could hear my sound. I was always doing small stuff with music, but this was a huge commitment and I wanted to finally present myself as a musician, as an artist. I’m such a creative person and this album process was so fun. It was fun to let my mind wander wherever!”

9. Backstreet Boys or *NSYNC ?

“I saw Backstreet Boys when I was 9 and I ended up getting front my row seats which resulted in me touching their hands. I went insane, but I have the strongest love for *NSYNC!”

10. Britney or Christina?

“Britney all the way!”

From a personal standpoint I truly believe that Hannah is an absolutely gifted musician who also had a great heart. Listening to her lyrics you can tell that she wears her heart on her sleeve and that she isn’t afraid to express emotion through her art.

She is definitely an artist you should keep an eye out for.

Again follow her on any of her social media outlets TwitterFacebook, and  Soundcloud. Be sure to pick up “The Surface” on Itunes  or Amazon too!

Thank you for the interview Hannah!

Paul McCartney, Reese Witherspoon, Tori Kelly, Jimmy Fallon, & More Sing ‘Wonderful Christmastime’

I absolutely love anything acapella, well for the most part. I have stated in the past that I am not a huge Jimmy Fallon fan but I can appreciate when it puts together things like this. It’s very ‘Pitch Perfect’ if you ask me!

This is of course to promo the new movie ‘Sing’ that stars a slew of stars, that are all basically in this video. Tori Kelly, Reese Witherspoon, Matthew McConaughey, Scarlett Johansson, and more!

To all of my readers, I hope that you have a great holiday season!

Niall Horan & Tori Kelly Hang Out At The Capitol Records Anniversary Gala

credit

Last night a ton of stars stepped out to support Capitol Records, one of the biggest record labels in the world. Stars like Katy Perry, Halsey, 5 Second of Summer, and more stepped out! I want to focus on Niall and Tori though because I love Tori Kelly and Niall Horan is starting to look real good now that he is growing out his beard.

The two only posed for like two pictures together but let’s be real, that’s all we need. These two both look great!

Word on the street is that these two are in talks of collaborating and that would be fucking incredible.

Would you all like to see a collaboration? Let me know!

Tori Kelly Gives Beautiful Performance Of ‘Hallelujah’ At 2016 Emmys

Last night Tori Kelly showed up at the Emmys’ to honor those who had passed away over the past year. It was truly such a beautiful moment of the show. Tori’s voice was beautiful and it was almost heartbreaking in a way. Tori is one of those singers who you actually believe it when you hear emotion in their voice.

One of my favorite moments of the night for sure.

Take a moment and listen to the beautiful rendition of this incredibly famous song.

This is an open letter to her manager Scooter Braun.

Dear Scooter,

Stop spending all of your time on controversial artists like Bieber and Grande, and signing Kanye. Focus on the raw talent like Tori Kelly, that will make the music world better.

Thank you,

Willi Killiams.

Tori Kelly Looks Stunning On The Emmy’s Red Carpet

Oh my god! The Emmy’s are on tonight and all of the arrivals are currently happening. Can we all just take a second to appreciate how incredible Tori Kelly looks? We all know that Tori can’t do any wrong, well for the most part she can’t and this continues to prove that she always looks good. Not only does she have the voice of an angel, she is absolutely gorgeous.

I wish that I had more insight on fashion other than saying how beautiful she is, but it’s all I got! Don’t hate on it!

I have a feeling that tonight is going to be a good night for fashion.

The Black Eyed Peas Recreate “Where Is The Love”

Fifteen years ago an unknown band named Black Eyed Peas along with a little help from their friend Justin Timberlake came out with a song called “Where Is The Love”. A song that helped the nation heal after the terrorist attacks that happened on 9/11.

Here we are now still wondering where the love is. The group decided to come together after a long hiatus to put together this song and remind people that we all need to love each other. The lyrics of this song are still prevalent even today. I have said it once, I will say it a million times, the Black Eyed Peas were far ahead of their time and it proves it with a song like this, a song that will probably speak to generations to come.

It is always great seeing a bunch of familiar faces coming together for a cause. I was all set with the DJ Khaled cameo but I understand why they wanted to put him in there.

Adding a verse from The Game though? That was a complete song changer, a good changer too.

So let’s remember to love one another, let’s remember that the media is separate us with our beliefs, and we have the power to stand together and say stop the violence.

Tori Kelly Records Song In Honor Of Christina Grimmie

As most people know, Christina Grimmie was tragically gunned down outside of her concert in early June. She was shot by a deranged fan and died due to her injuries. A truly awful and disgusting tragedy of a life taken far too soon.

Many people have reached out and done performances, songs, and poems in honor of the late singer.

Tori Kelly is the most recent to do so.

Sometimes where words fail, music speaks, and this is definitely one of those moments. Please take a minute to listen to her beautiful song “Blink Of An Eye”.

this song was written for Christina Grimmie after she passed away tragically. i needed to write this song. thank you to my good friend, zac poor, who was brave enough to take on the challenge of writing it with me. my heart was & is still so heavy when i think of her not being with us. however, i am still comforted knowing that i’ll get to see her again someday in heaven. my prayers go out to her family & loved ones.

even though this song had specific meaning, more recently i‘m overwhelmed at the pain & the brokenness in the world today, & so this is really just me grieving. at all of it. life is so short.
thanks for listening, i love you guys.

“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” ~ Revelation 21:4

Rest in peace Christina, you will never be forgotten.

Jewel & Tori Kelly Team Up For ‘You Were Meant For Me’

So can Jewel and Tori Kelly just team up and record a full album together? Please. That is all I need in my life, just a nice little duet album for all of our listening pleasure.

I think I am going to watch this “Greatest Hits” show on ABC, seems like a show I would be into because I am all about nostalgic music. Having Hanson, Jewel, and the Backstreet Boys in one episode? ABC is trying to slay me!

Exclusive Interview With Boston’s Melissa Jane!

On Saturday April 30th, I was lucky enough to be invited to Melissa Jane’s show before the Tori Kelly concert that was happening at the House of Blues. Melissa was performing in the Foundation Room, which is for VIP club members.

Now I wasn’t sure what to expect but when Melissa Jane walked into the room there was a star presence. She walked in wearing a white corset and as she set up she has everyone’s attention, by the time she started to sing, all eyes were on her. Melissa’s voice was absolutely out of the world and it made sense why she was paired up with a Tori Kelly concert. Both of their voices are absolute power houses, and they are talented, something that in my opinion many artists lack.

After Melissa Jane finished her set, I was able to ask her a few questions after she made her rounds.

“Mariah Carey, she is one of my idols”, of course I wasn’t surprised by the statement considering the style of music that Melissa sings, plus Mariah is a legend, so there is that.

One thing that did surprise me was when I asked who she would do a duet with. Of course I was going to assume that it was going to be an artist like Mariah or Whitney but she said D’Angelo. He of course has one of the best vocal ranges in any male vocalists. Melissa went on to explain that during her time at Berkeley, she was exposed to many different types of music but the one that stuck with her was R&B, the soulful sounds of the genre spoke to her. Which is why she tends to focus on that style of music.

“I do, I write all of my own music.” Considering I have zero music ability, again I was stunned by the raw talent that was sitting in front of me.

Of course I had to ask why she never tried out for American Idol, The Voice, or any of the other million singing competitions that seemed to be out there. It was a simple answer. She did’t want to sign any contracts. I learned that the shows basically own you even if you are voted off or if you win. Melissa just didn’t think it was the right business choice for her.

Melissa has been the GRAMMYs, she has sang the National Anthem at stadiums, yet she was sitting here so humble as I did my interview with her. In reality there is no way that this woman can’t make it. With her voice, her looks, and her personality, it is only a matter of time until Melissa Jane is a household name.

Be sure to stream her new EP ‘The Butterfly’ on Spotify, buy it on ITunes , and like her Facebook page. Be sure to get to know her before the entire world knows her name, so you can say you listened to her when.

Let’s Talk About The Tori Kelly & James Bay Performance At The 2016 GRAMMYs

During the GRAMMY awards last night there were plenty of incredible performances. The Lionel Richie tribute was great, Lady Gaga‘s tribute to David Bowie was magical, and Taylor Swift made us feel like we were at a 1989 concert.

Tori Kelly and James Bay’s performance was magical though. Tori’s voice is easily one of the best in the business at the moment. Her voice is so pure. There is also something so magical about only using acoustic guitars, can we agree on that? It was just two singers getting lost in the music. I will give James a lot of credit too, his voice was incredible. I didn’t expect him to be such a strong performer but I was taken by surprise.

This duet along with the Carrie Underwood and Sam Hunt duet were my favorite performances of the night.
