Rolling Stone says Guzmán asked for permission to see the story prior to publication, but requested no changes be made.
Investigators monitored meetings between producers and Guzmán’s representatives – one of which was the Penn interview, a Mexican official told the Associated Press. It also allowed to federal forces to carry out an October raid in rural Durango state, in which Guzmán suffered a leg injury, but ultimately escaped.
In the interview, Guzman defends his work at the head of the world’s biggest drug trafficking organization. When asked if he is to blame for high addiction rates, he responds: “No, that is false, because the day I don’t exist, it’s not going to decrease in any way at all. Drug trafficking? That’s false.” (credit)
To be honest I am very confused. Why isn’t Sean Penn in jail? ‘El Chapo’ was one of the most wanted men and I feel like not telling anyone you say ‘El Chapo’ automatically gets you into some sort of legal trouble. If Sean was aware of Chapo’s location and didn’t tell anyone, he should be in some sort of trouble.
I suggest you read everything in that little credit link posted above because it is really interesting. There is a lot more to the story than the little blurb, I just can’t take a whole article.
I just want to know how this went down. Were their emails exchanged between Penn and Chapo? Why was Penn allowed this access? Now that he has been caught, will Penn be in danger because it was right after their interview?
Only time will tell.
