Music Monday: The Never Story – J.I.D

Holy shit. There is really nothing else I can say about J.I.D .A few weeks ago I followed this rapper J.I.D on Twitter and since, I haven’t been able to stop listening to his music. Seriously, he sounds so different and I absolutely so it. His word play, his beats, just all of it.

He sounds so different and it’s refreshing.

After trying to do some research, I still haven’t been able to find much about this artist. I know that he is from Atlanta, I know that he is signed to J. Cole’s Dreamville records, and I know that he is going to blow up soon.

In an interview with XXL , he mentions that he has been compared to Kendrick Lamar. When he was asked to describe his music he described it as “just like a cluster fuck of good shit. I don’t try to make one thing, I really try to experiment, even if its just the vocals or the beat. I can’t really describe my sound.”

This guy sounds like no one I have ever heard, something that I really respect in an artist.

The future of rap is here.

Be sure to follow J.I.D on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and Soundcloud so you never miss an update. He is going to blow up shortly, make sure you can say you listened to him way back when!

Man Crush Monday : J. Cole

J. Cole released a surprise album this past week and it is clear that he is one of the best to ever hold a mic. Let’s be real about that. His music is so deep and has such meaningful lyrics, it is almost like spoken word rather than hip hop, just my opinion.

That is something that makes this man so attractive. He is smart, smart with his words and with his beats. He is the kind of writer that can bring a man to tears (so I’ve been told), and also make a woman feel appreciated.

It’s pretty obvious that J. Cole’s newest album 4 Your Eyez Only is his most popular one yet, well it has gotten the most press. Everyone knows he went platinum with no features on his last album. For good reason too, he even dedicates a song to his wife and daughter, well possibly his daughter. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but if you listen to his album you’ll understand why there is speculation.

So J. Cole has it all, he has brains, beauty, and is taller than most celebrities out there, which is something I can appreciate.

Happy Monday!

Did J. Cole Diss Kanye West In His New Track “False Prophets”

Image result for j cole

This is public service announcement to all of the rappers out there, J. Cole is back. Let’s be real J. Cole is one of the most impressive rappers in recent years. He is someone who has smart rhymes and went platinum without any features, that’s a big deal in case you didn’t know.

J. Cole’s “False Prophets” song was shown during his Eyez documentary that is exclusively streaming on Tidal.

Here are the lyrics that have everyone thinking that this song is most likely about Kanye.

“Life is a balance/You lose your grip you could slip into an abyss. Ego in charge of every move, he’s a star/And we can’t look away due to the days when he caught our hearts/He’s falling apart but we deny it/Justifying the half-assed shit he drop, we always buy it. When he tell us he a genius, but it’s clearer lately/It’s been hard for him to look into the mirror lately. There was a time when this n—- was my hero maybe/That’s the reason why his fall from grace is hard to take.”

Well shit, if you listen to it I am guessing this song is either about Drake or Kanye, most people are choosing Kanye but hey it could be either.

Be careful everyone, J is coming for you!

J. Cole Might Be Dropping A Surprise Album Next Week

Well, well, well it looks like J. Cole knows that we need something good to end 2016 with. Of course the Ja Rule and Ashanti song on the Hamilton Mixtape can only do so much! This shit year needs to have sometihing good happen. So a J. Cole album would definitely help. At this point all signs point to yes that he will be releasing an album since 4 Your Eyez Only has popped up on Itunes!

The album will reportedly on December 9th, and has ten tracks. Most people know that his last album went platinum with no features and became the best selling rap album of 2014, and the Grammys ignored him,but hey, the don’t like talent much anyway.

Let’s see what happens!

Are you excited for this to drop, if it happens?

Who Should’ve Replaced Lin-Manuel Miranda In ‘Hamilton’

So the creative genius that is Lin-Manuel is leaving the Broadway hit ‘Hamilton’ to probably go and write another absolute Broadway smash. It’s obvious that this show will be around for a long time and he probably doesn’t want to be completely tied down, which is understandable.

It has been announced that his replacement will be his understudy, Javier Munoz.  Munoz will officially start on July 11th as the title character.

Now, I am glad that the understudy is able to make it to the stage but there are a few people that I would have loved to see take the stage as Lin-Manuel’s replacement, at least for a short period of time.

Taye Diggs

Taye Diggs can sing, really well. He was in ‘Rent’, he was also in ‘Hedwig’, both on Broadway. He has the resume and he isn’t so bad to look at.

Donald Glover

Whether you call him Donald or Childish Gambino, I think that we can all agree that he is by far one of the most talented men in the business. He can rap, he can act, and he is so damn humble about it.

Drake

Personally, I know that Drake is a good actor. He was great on Degrassi and he can rap. He could pull off ‘Hamilton’ for sure. Drake also has zero street credit, so he could be on Broadway no issue.

Justin Timberlake

JT because, why not? I mean he can sing, he can dance, and he is one of the best entertainers of our time. He will absolutely go down at one of the best. Truthfully I am surprised he hasn’t really shown a serious interest in theater yet.

J. Cole

J.Cole would absolutely be my first choice to take over the spot for Lin-Manuel, I highly doubt that he would do it. J. Cole is a serious rapper and I couldn’t imagine him on a Broadway stage wearing tights, but I think it would be awesome. Everything that J does, he puts his heart and soul into. That would absolutely be my dream.

Who did you hope would take Lin-Manuel’s place?

58th GRAMMY Award Nominations Have Been Revealed!

grammy noms 640

Can you smell it? It smells like awards season is in the air and I couldn’t be happier about it! I thrive during award season! There is nothing like watching all of these celebrities pretend to smile when they lose awards, that is the best. I love when they stand up and actually cheer for the other person too!

The GRAMMYS are one of the best shows of the year, sometimes. It is the party before the Oscars because those are so boring, when it happens check your Facebook newsfeeds and everyone will talk about how boring it is. Then you have to let them know it has always been boring.

I have done this the past two years so here come my GRAMMY preditions! Fun fact, I am awful at this. For someone who follows entertianment the way that I do you would think I would be better, but I am just not.

Now you have to remember there are always dark horses because people who win at voted by the academy of music or something like that. It isn’t about record sales, remember that Kanye so you don’t rush the stage again.

So here we go, the bold is who I think should win and italics is who will probably win. I know technically that is two predictions but I don’t care!

Also before anyone freaks out about Adele not being nominated, she didn’t make the September 30th deadline. She will be nominated in 2017, I promise.

Album Of The Year:

Sound & Color — Alabama Shakes

To Pimp A Butterfly — Kendrick Lamar

Traveller — Chris Stapleton

1989 — Taylor Swift

Beauty Behind The Madness — The Weeknd

Now listen, I wasnt a bit fan of this album but it is truly an incredible feat for Taylor. She made the complete transformation from country to pop artist so effortlessly and I think that she truly deserves this win.

Record Of The Year:

“Really Love” — D’Angelo And The Vanguard

“Uptown Funk” — Mark Ronson Featuring Bruno Mars

“Thinking Out Loud” — Ed Sheeran

“Blank Space” — Taylor Swift

“Can’t Feel My Face” — The Weeknd

Although I think that Bruno Mars desrves this win I genuinely believe that Ed Sheeran will win. Bruno of course is doing something different though, he and Mark Ronson put out one of the hottest songs of the year. The throwback to funk music was incredible, people don’t usually do things like that anymore. They like to stay in their box. Ed’s song was so beautiful though, I mean I feel like it has to win.

Song Of The Year:

“Alright” — Kendrick Duckworth, Mark Anthony Spears & Pharrell Williams, songwriters (Kendrick Lamar)

“Blank Space” — Max Martin, Shellback & Taylor Swift, songwriters (Taylor Swift)

“Girl Crush” — Hillary Lindsey, Lori McKenna & Liz Rose, songwriters (Little Big Town)

“See You Again” — Andrew Cedar, Justin Franks, Charles Puth & Cameron Thomaz, songwriters (Wiz Khalifa Featuring Charlie Puth)

“Thinking Out Loud” — Ed Sheeran & Amy Wadge, songwriters (Ed Sheeran)

Kendrick has always been a favorite at the GRAMMYS and I genuinely believe that he will win this category. The song “Alright” is easily one of the most powerful songs of the year. Again this is how it is written, this is the award for the song writers. Kendrick deserves this award due to his social realism and his incredible lyrics.

Best New Artist:

Courtney Barnett

James Bay

Sam Hunt

Tori Kelly

Meghan Trainor

I am ahuge Tori Kelly fan and I think that she absolutely deserves this award. She is an incredible songwriter, singer, and performer. I swear when she performs she demands attention and she gets your attention. I mean she stole the VMAs with her performance. The people who win this award are always obscure though, that is why I am guessing James Bay will win.

Best Pop Duo/Group Performance:

“Ship To Wreck” — Florence + The Machine

“Sugar” — Maroon 5

“Uptown Funk” — Mark Ronson Featuring Bruno Mars

“Bad Blood” — Taylor Swift Featuring Kendrick Lamar

“See You Again” — Wiz Khalifa Featuring Charlie Puth

Honestly, as long as Maroon 5 doesn’t win I will be happy. I would love to see Mark and Bruno pull out the win but I think that we will see Wiz and Charlie up there accepting the award.

Best Dance Recording:

“We’re All We Need” — Above & Beyond Featuring Zoë Johnston

“Go” — The Chemical Brothers

“Never Catch Me” — Flying Lotus Featuring Kendrick Lamar

“Runaway (U & I)” — Galantis

“Where Are Ü Now” — Skrillex And Diplo With Justin Bieber

I don’t want Bieber to win but then again I am not sure if Kendrick will be able to take this home. The other songs I am not even sure of. So honestly, anyone could win this and I probably wouldn’t care.

Best Rock Performance:

“Don’t Wanna Fight” — Alabama Shakes

“What Kind Of Man” — Florence + The Machine

“Something From Nothing” — Foo Fighters

“Ex’s & Oh’s” — Elle King

“Moaning Lisa Smile” — Wolf Alice

Critics love Alabama Shakes, which is why I would assume that they are going to win. Florance is an incredible singer though so I hope that she can pull out a win. Like I said before though, critics love Alabama Shakes.

Best Alternative Music Album:

Sound & Color — Alabama Shakes

Vulnicura — Björk

The Waterfall — My Morning Jacket

Currents — Tame Impala

Star Wars — Wilco

Alabama Shakes again, I dont really know the other artists. My Morning Jacket is great but again, I can’t see them beating Alabama Shakes.

Best Urban Contemporary Album:

Ego Death — The Internet

You Should Be Here — Kehlani

Blood — Lianne La Havas

Wildheart  — Miguel

Beauty Behind The Madness — The Weeknd

Although I woud love to see The Weeknd win big here, I think that Miguel will take it. His music is so good, his lyrics are so smooth, and I think that he has what it takes. Hopefully he doesn’t jump over the stage and nearly decapitate a girl when he wins though.

Best Rap Album:

2014 Forest Hills Drive — J. Cole

Compton — Dr. Dre

If Youre Reading This Its Too Late — Drake

To Pimp A Butterfly — Kendrick Lamar

The Pinkprint — Nicki Minaj

If J. Cole doesn’t win I am going to riot, that is all that there is to know. J. Cole is one of the most gifted artists of our time. If he doesn’t win I will write a strongly worded blog directed to the GRAMMYS!

Best Country Album:

Montevallo — Sam Hunt

Pain Killer — Little Big Town

The Blade — Ashley Monroe

Pageant Material — Kacey Musgraves

Traveller — Chris Stapleton

Although I think that it has been Sam Hunt’s year the music industry is really pushing Chris Stapleton down our throats. Don’t get me wrong I think he is incredible! I think that he is great and honestly when it come sto music he is potentially a step ahead of Sam Hunt. I know I said before that this awards show isn’t based on fan popularity which is why I am saying that Chris is going to take it home.

So those are the predictions that I have come up with! Yes there are more categories than the ones that I posted but I didn’t know any of the artists!

Let me know what you guys think here!

J. Cole Visits Fan Battling Cancer

twitter_j_cole_fan_0_1448319464

How cool is this? I truly believe that J. Cole cares about his fans more than most other celebrities out there. He is always reaching out to fans and he was even able to go to a fans high school graduation. That is something that I have never heard of happening before. His relationship with his fans is deeper than them just being his fans. He seems to really connect with them on a deeper level and seriously takes his time to get to know them.

On another note keep on fighting Tae Stackhouse!

J Cole Attends Fan’s Graduation On Promise He Made Two Years Ago!

J. Cole Attends Fan’s Graduation on Promise He Made 2 Years Ago!

So two years ago @princess_simba tweeted to J.Cole that it would mean the absolute world to her if her favorite rapper was to go to her high school graduation.

J. Cole Promise

Last year she sent him another tweet to check in with him about her grades, just to prove that she was doing well.

J. COle Promise 2

On June 24th, 2015, the young lady graduated high school with a promise to go on to a four year college and guess who was next to her? J.Cole! He even admitted to scheduling his whole tour around her graduation so he could be there for her. Just a casual thing to do for a fan, right? A lot of celebrities won’t even stop for a picture, J scheduled a whole damn tour around this young woman succeeding, how incredible is that?

She even told the world that he gifted her with some of his favorite books and is going to help pay for her college tuition. This is absolutely amazing news and good luck to @princess_simba on furthering your education!
