Music Monday : If I Told You (Cover) – Stephen Schriner

Let me be clear, Stephen Schriner is absolutely incredible. We have followed each other on Twitter for a while now and I have been wanting to do a Music Monday on him, and finally I was able to do so.

Just a few weeks ago Stephen went a bit viral due to his cover of “If I Told You” by Darius Rucker, in fact the man himself gave Stephen props on the cover. That’s right, Darius posted this cover on his Facebook giving Stephen a ton of credit.

I love the cover, I love all of Stephen’s covers and I genuinely believe that he will make it big time in country music.

So before he blows up, be sure to check out his YouTube page and follow him on Twitter! Say you listened to him way back when.

Music Monday : “Sunshine” – The Elovaters

There’s nothing like starting off a Monday with some incredible music, am I right? Today I was scrolling through Facebook and a band called The Elovaters (formerly known as The Cornerstone) popped up and after hearing their song “Sunshine”, I became absolutely obsessed.

The band is from the Boston area, according to their Facebook page  they were influenced by Sublime and Bob Marley, which you can definitely hear through their music.

The Elovaters are Reggae/Rock/Funk band hailing from Boston, Massachusetts. The band is fronted by lead singer/songwriter/rhythm guitarist Jackson Wetherbee who has toured internationally. The Elovaters also feature musicians formerly of New England Music Award winning bands; The Aldous Collins Band and Last Call. The sound is similar to that of UB40, The Police, Sublime and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Their show is fun, energetic and has festive crowds dancing, grooving, and singing along. They have supporting headliners such as Kool and The Gang, Akon, Ballyhoo, Stick Figure, Collie Buddz, Trombone Shorty, The Movement, New Kingston, and Galactic.

So I would suggest that you check them out while they are on tour now because eventually these guys will be filling up concert venues across the country. There is no doubt in my mind about that.

You can find all of their tour dates here! Check out their YouTube , Instagram, and Twitter as well so you never miss a new song from The Elovaters!

Real question though, is it possible to be in a bad mood when you listen to reggae music?

I think that right now we could all use more music like this!

Music Monday : “I Don’t Wait To Live Forever” (Cover) – Jonah Baker

Last week I was flipping through the stations in the Boston area and Mix 104.1 was playing what they call 15 seconds of fame. I heard a beautiful voice flowing through the speakers and immediately I had to hear more of Jonah Baker.

Let me tell you something, Jonah’s voice is absolutely incredible. It almost had a bit of innocence to it but it also kind of reminds me of young Justin Timberlake, which isn’t a bad thing. Think of like NYSNC Justin, and I am straight up obsessed.

Immediately I went to his YouTube channel and listened to all of his covers, then Spotify to listen to his original songs. This guys talent is absolutely out of this world. I would recommend following him on Twitter so you can say that you were a fan when he finally blows up, because his voice is too perfect to not blow up.

I also have to give him credit because he did something that I didn’t think was possible. He made me like “I Don’t Want To Live Forever”.

Today up and coming rapper Chase Stebbins released a visually stunning music video for “10 AM”. The song also features up and coming vocalist Miranda Rose, who has an incredible voice.

Chase is originally from Boston but moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of becoming the next big thing. Clearly he has a lot of talent and I genuinely believe that he will make it. With his rapping ability, play on words, and nice smile, there’s no way he won’t make it. His hustle is also like no other, something you have to respect.

In case you were wondering he has already opened for artists like Big Sean and Jeremih.

Music Monday : “Closer” – Boyce Avenue ft Sarah Hyland

Boyce Avenue has been on my radar for a long time, they have some of the best covers that I have ever heard. No seriously, go check them out because they are absolutely incredible. Sarah Hyland though? I knew she had incredible comedic timing but I had no idea that she could sing, so that is an amazing surprise.

Most people are aware that “Closer” is one of the biggest songs of the year but this cover is just as good as the original if you ask me.

Shout out to Sarah for showing off her pipes though! Sing it girl!

Music Monday: “10 AM” – Chase

If you remember, Celebrities Are Tragic featured Chase back in May with his song “Love U” and he is back out with another hit, “10 AM”.

Somehow, I don’t know how, but Chase is an unsigned artist with incredible talent. He is an amazing writer and rapper, with songs that come from the heart. It is one of the many reasons why I have been a fan of this artist since day one. His focus on perfecting his craft is extremely impressive and with each new track, he just keeps getting better.

This song is a more personal track for Chase, which he explained to me. “So it was written for a girl I had a one night stand with I had to be at work at 10 am the next day, so it’s all the events leading up to that.” Chase then went on to explain that the girl meant more to him than just a casual hookup, but he moved to Los Angeles and she moved to Colorado.

My absolute favorite line is “I wish I missed my 10 am shift”, why? Everyone has those moments when they have responsibilities they have to take care of and sometimes you wonder what if you stuck around. Would things have changed? Who knows, because you had to take care of those responsibilities.

Big shout out to the female vocalist on the track Miranda Lambert! She sounded incredible!

Chase is going to blow up, I promise. If you are in the Los Angeles area, click on his Facebook line below to find out where he is performing, maybe in an area near you!

Be sure to follow his personal SoundCloud , Twitter, and Facebook for updates and become a fan before he is a household name!

Music Monday: Happiness – Token

So Token is young rapper out of Boston, and he is about to put Boston on the map, I think that it is evident with all of his music, but his newest release “Happiness”, my jaw dropped. I love a song with a story and this is exactly what “Happiness” is. Everyone can relate to this song.

To be honest, Token has a ton of great music, this song was just released today so I thought it was perfect for Music Monday.

Check out his Facebook and Twitter. I promise you that Token has a really bright future ahead of him and we will be hearing from him for a long time coming. Remember Token is only 17 and already has this kind of insight? Pretty impressive if you ask me.

Music Monday: ‘Goodbye My Lover’ Wild Youth

There are some songs that when you hear it, it brings out your emotions. Whether it is the lyrics or the pain in the artists voice, there is something there that can bring you to tears. That is absolutely how I felt when I first heard Wild Youth’s song, ‘Goodbye My Lover’ a twist on James Blunt’s original song.

Everyone has been through some sort of heartbreak and I feel like this song sums it up perfectly.

My absolute favorite line of the entire song has to be “drinking every weekend, speaking sober thoughts”, most people have had that moment when you drink a bit, get some liquid courage and send some risky text messages.

When I asked a summary of this song, Ryne, better known as Wild Youth gave me this summary.

“This one was real, This one was really really real. Love doesn’t hurt but heartbreak just about kills you. I write these songs because i need to write, or because writing will mend something broken inside me or you and bring something back to life in me and my wonderful fans who listen. I don’t make or write these songs for anyone except for myself but the fact that I can touch and help so many people by being vulnerable and actually almost being scared to make my words and life so public by publishing them. But i am glad i do because the messages i receive by people going through the same trials and struggles make putting my weaknesses into my songs worth it just if i can make one lonely person feel like they aren’t alone in there struggles then the hours and hours i put into my craft is not in vein and knowing i can touch people i may have never met is incredible to me. This one goes out to the ones in love, and the ones who are feeling alone in heartbreak, to the ones who have never felt neither love nor heartbreak and the ones who are days away from finding the love of there lives. What a beautifully scary happy messed up special life we get to live. This song is about a love that was so right and that same love lost. I hope you can enjoy or relate!”

Well, I can say one thing, people definitely can relate to this song, there is no doubt about that one. It is so well written and performed, I can’t emphasis that enough.

Truthfully I don’t think this is the last we have seen of this artist. I just hope that once you hear Wild Youth on the radio you remember that you heard them first here!

For the record, Ryne used to be a part of a group called Thirty100 where they went viral with their ‘Miley Cyrus Virus‘ video, Miley actually gave them a shout out a few years ago for it too!

Music Monday: ‘Love U’ By Chase Stebbins

Chase Stebbins, or simply Chase has been quietly making moves in the rap game for a while now. He is an artist based out of Boston, Massachusetts but recently moved to Los Angeles and found a whole new sound. There are some artists that continue to improve over times and luckily for me I have known Chase for about four years now, and his music just keeps getting better.

His most recently song ‘Love U’ is by far his best song that he has recorded. The lyrics are incredible my favorite line of the song has to be “I like my women bad, more like broken”, so relatable.

I was lucky enough to ask Chase a few questions about his new sound and song ‘Love U’.

When I asked what inspired him he said, “My inspiration was my the last eight months of being in LA. I felt like leaving my comfort zone in Boston helped me realize the artist I am and who I want to be moving forward. I have experienced a lot of different artist in LA and I feel like this song is an expression of how I’m feeling right now as a musician not just a rapper.”

I was also able to ask him about his writing style. Most people don’t sit down in one sitting and write a song, and they definitely don’t do that when it comes to writing a book, art takes time. So, I wanted to know his process.

“I keep my phone on me at all times for when ideas come to me. You should see my notes app in my phone. I know that for sure every time I go to Hollywood, I leave with some great material. My favorite place to write is El Matador beach in Malibu.”

The truth is that Chase has been working hard for years, he writes his own music and can hustle like no other, there is no doubt in my mind that he has what it takes to make it big. He has already opened for artists like Big Sean, Jeremih, along with headlining a spring concert for a local Massachusetts college.

So get familiar with Chase so you can say you listened to him when.

Exclusive Interview With Boston’s Melissa Jane!

On Saturday April 30th, I was lucky enough to be invited to Melissa Jane’s show before the Tori Kelly concert that was happening at the House of Blues. Melissa was performing in the Foundation Room, which is for VIP club members.

Now I wasn’t sure what to expect but when Melissa Jane walked into the room there was a star presence. She walked in wearing a white corset and as she set up she has everyone’s attention, by the time she started to sing, all eyes were on her. Melissa’s voice was absolutely out of the world and it made sense why she was paired up with a Tori Kelly concert. Both of their voices are absolute power houses, and they are talented, something that in my opinion many artists lack.

After Melissa Jane finished her set, I was able to ask her a few questions after she made her rounds.

“Mariah Carey, she is one of my idols”, of course I wasn’t surprised by the statement considering the style of music that Melissa sings, plus Mariah is a legend, so there is that.

One thing that did surprise me was when I asked who she would do a duet with. Of course I was going to assume that it was going to be an artist like Mariah or Whitney but she said D’Angelo. He of course has one of the best vocal ranges in any male vocalists. Melissa went on to explain that during her time at Berkeley, she was exposed to many different types of music but the one that stuck with her was R&B, the soulful sounds of the genre spoke to her. Which is why she tends to focus on that style of music.

“I do, I write all of my own music.” Considering I have zero music ability, again I was stunned by the raw talent that was sitting in front of me.

Of course I had to ask why she never tried out for American Idol, The Voice, or any of the other million singing competitions that seemed to be out there. It was a simple answer. She did’t want to sign any contracts. I learned that the shows basically own you even if you are voted off or if you win. Melissa just didn’t think it was the right business choice for her.

Melissa has been the GRAMMYs, she has sang the National Anthem at stadiums, yet she was sitting here so humble as I did my interview with her. In reality there is no way that this woman can’t make it. With her voice, her looks, and her personality, it is only a matter of time until Melissa Jane is a household name.

Be sure to stream her new EP ‘The Butterfly’ on Spotify, buy it on ITunes , and like her Facebook page. Be sure to get to know her before the entire world knows her name, so you can say you listened to her when.
