Music Monday: “Sushi” – Hoodie Allen

Well it has been a while since I have done a Music Monday post but there was a reason I didn’t write about Hoodie’s song that was released last week, I needed it for this week!

Hoodie Allen is one of my favorite rappers out there, his lyrics are smart, his songs are catchy, and he is a rap Zac Efron. What more could you ask for?

It has been a little while since Hoodie released new music but clearly fans are here for Hoodie’s new music because it has already charted on Spotify and Itunes.

This song was definitely worth the wait, I am a big fan of it. Catchy, fun lyrics, and Hoodie sounds great on it!

I have decided that this year has to be Hoodie’s year for making it mainstream. It seems like he doesn’t really care if he is on a track with Britney or Camila Cabello or anything, but I genuinely don’t think he needs to feature a well known female singer to get those plays. Hoodie can do it all himself.

So check out “Sushi” below and be ready because on September 29th he will be dropping his new album The Hype.

Music Monday: “Know Your Name” – Mary Lambert

Usually with Music Monday I like to try and find people who haven’t been a part of huge hits, things like that. Mary Lambert was of course a part of “Same Love” by Macklemore, but she doesn’t get nearly enough credit for her own music.

This singer kind of reminds me of Hayley Williams, kind of reminds me of Kelly Clarkson, but she has her own vibe.

Not only do I love this song, I love the music video too. She even said that she basically made a queer “Bad Blood” music video, something that you have to love!

Great video, great song, great voice, everything about this is great.

This should be a summer anthem for sure!

Music Monday: “Wine & Cigs” – Chase Stebbins

If you’ve followed my Music Monday posts at all there is a good chance that you’ve seen Chase Stebbins featured here a few times. He was a local Boston rapper who is now living in Los Angeles trying to follow his dreams.

In my opinion this is probably his best song, it shows his true growth as an artist, trying out a different sound, and making it work. This video is dope too, I just had to throw that out there.

Luckily I was able to ask Chase a few songs about his new sound, his big move to LA, and his biggest influences.

1) What inspired this song?
The song was about a conversation i had with my mother about moving to LA and following my dream

2) This is a new sound from you, are you planning on continuing down this route or just continue to try out different sounds?
I do want to continue down this route when it comes to my sound. I am comfortable on every record now. I know who I am with my music now and because of that I can start growing

3) You’re a Massachusetts native who ventured out to Los Angeles to follow his dreams. What was the hardest part of moving across country?
The hardest part was giving up all the connections and relationships back home. It’s a complete fresh start which is scary for some, but I learned to love the challenge.

4) Can we expect a full album or mixtape any time soon?
I have a few things in the works, but don’t hold your breathe for a full on album just yet

 5) What artists inspire you the most when it comes to your own music?
I’m currently taking a lot of inspiration from Mac Miller and Chance The Rapper. I love to watch them perform because they just let the music and beat pull them and make it look so natural.

Chase is definitely making waves on his own though on the West Coast. He has already performed at a ton of different venues, and is headlining his first show tomorrow May 16th at The Study Hollywood.

All that I can say is Chase has come a long way from rapping Eminem at karaoke to putting together incredible songs with deep lyrics.

His time is coming, I can feel it.

Music Monday : “Perfect” (Cover) – Leroy Sanchez

Well, I was going to call it quits on Music Monday this week then I stumbled upon a cover of Ed Sheeran’s song “Perfect” by Leroy Sanchez.

Oh my God, Leroy has the absolute voice of an angel and there is no other way to put it. This singer has a ton of covers up on YouTube and I am trying to figure out how he hasn’t blown up yet! His voice is truly out of this world.

According to his Facebook page, Leroy is signed to Rebel Rock label and working on his first album.

So I suggest following Leroy on Twitter and remembering where you first heard of him!

Hopefully we hear this guy on the radio soon, his voice would definitely be refreshing.

Music Monday : “Bones” – Matt McAndrew

If the name Matt McAndrew sounds familiar it’s because he should have won ‘The Voice’. I am pretty sure that was the last season I watched but in my opinion, Matt had that thing. You know what I am saying, he had such a coolness and such an emotional connection to music. Big fan since that moment on.

Now, we all know that he has a beautiful song “Wasted Love” which was his final song on ‘The Voice’. Well I just rediscovered his music and I love it. He has such a Dashboard Confessional, All Time Low vibe and I love every single second of it.

In a way it’s almost nostalgic and we all know how hot nostalgia is right now.

Matt has continued to record new music and I don’t know how he hasn’t blown up yet. Again his voice is something that the radio needs right now!

You can check out his music on his ReverbNation account and follow updates from his Twitter and website.

Music Monday : Happier (Cover) – Jillian Jensen

If Jillian Jensen looks familiar to you it’s because she was on ‘The X-Factor’ and ‘American Idol’. Unfortunately her time was cut short on both shows but her story moved a lot of people.

Although she was first introduced to the world about five years ago, she still has a huge following and is still putting out music.

Tonight she released a cover of her singing Ed Sheeran’s “Happier”, a beautiful song from his most recent album, Divide.

Jill’s voice is insane, she definitely has her own style and it’s beautiful.

I would also like to point out that Jill sang this in her car. She sounded this good in a fucking car. That is just raw talent.

Music Monday : I Don’t Wanna Live Forever (Cover) – Limitless

16796929_1738439386485381_7092343943695399012_o

Sounds Limitless is a band that I have been following for a while now. They are a Boston based EDM group that are starting to make some big moves to say the least.

The music group Limitless was formed in 2017 by two Boston-based DJ/Producers. After playing at every major nightclub in Boston (from Royale, Whisky Saigon, to RISE, etc), they wanted more. So they began to push the limits of what people are used to when it comes to nightclubs, DJs, and the electronic music scene.

By combining aspects of live performance, DJing, and instruments, this group has created something that can never stop evolving. They can add an endless amount of variety, including different instruments, visuals, genres of music, and number of vocalists to each set and each song they play. This freedom to constantly expand and push the limits of the norm is what makes them “Limitless”. Which is refreshing, especially in the EDM world when music being made is so focused on being popular that it forgets to be unique and challenge these norms.

Limitless encourages everyone to push the boundaries of the norm to create something new, exciting, and mind-blowing. Limitless itself is a family of members who all share the common goal of pushing against the boundaries of the norm.

The group is all about pushing boundaries and pushing yourself to the limit.

They believe that anything is possible, everything is limitless.

In my opinion there is no way that this group doesn’t blow up within the next few years. If producers can blow up by standing behind a DJ booth then Limitless’ unique way of putting together instruments along with vocals and a beat, there is no way they can be ignored.

Good news is that they are currently recording original music and it should be out in April!

So be sure to follow this group because I have a feeling they will be blowing up in time!

Music Monday: The Never Story – J.I.D

Image result for j.i.d

Holy shit. There is really nothing else I can say about J.I.D .A few weeks ago I followed this rapper J.I.D on Twitter and since, I haven’t been able to stop listening to his music. Seriously, he sounds so different and I absolutely so it. His word play, his beats, just all of it.

He sounds so different and it’s refreshing.

After trying to do some research, I still haven’t been able to find much about this artist. I know that he is from Atlanta, I know that he is signed to J. Cole’s Dreamville records, and I know that he is going to blow up soon.

In an interview with XXL , he mentions that he has been compared to Kendrick Lamar. When he was asked to describe his music he described it as “just like a cluster fuck of good shit. I don’t try to make one thing, I really try to experiment, even if its just the vocals or the beat. I can’t really describe my sound.”

This guy sounds like no one I have ever heard, something that I really respect in an artist.

The future of rap is here.

Be sure to follow J.I.D on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and Soundcloud so you never miss an update. He is going to blow up shortly, make sure you can say you listened to him way back when!

Music Monday : “Shape Of You (Remix)” – Merkules

Image may contain: one or more people

I have heard a lot of covers of “Shape Of You”, whenever Ed Sheeran puts out a song it’s immediately covered by a million people on YouTube, some are bad, some are good, ubut only few are incredible. Right when he I heard Merkules rapping over the “Shape Of You” beat my jaw dropped. This is what I like to call incredible.

This is the first I have heard about Merkules but he seems to have a pretty serious following on social media who it wouldn’t surprise me if he blew up shortly. Especially with his word play and his flow. I am all about it.

I don’t know much about him, there isn’t much info on his Facebook or Twitter but I just know that I am a big fan of him. I can’t wait to hear what else he will release!

Make sure to check out his Facebook, Twitter, Bandcamp, and his YouTube so you can keep up with all of his new music and updates.

Music Monday : “Wild And Crazy” – Alec MacGillivray

Image may contain: one or more people, people playing musical instruments and people on stage

Country boys, am I right? I mean there is just something about a guy who has that country twang to his voice, have him play guitar, and sing, it’s a great combination. Can we all agree with that? Well, probably not since people either really love country or hate it.

I absolutely love it though, and when you find a great singer you have to tell all of your friends, right?

After doing a bit of research through Facebook I stumbled upon Alec MacGillivray, an up and coming country artist from the Boston area. He was born in Tennessee but he moved up north so he is a country boy with Boston swagger. Those are his words, not mine.

He has already opened for artists like Keith Urban, Florida Georgia Line, Thomas Rhett, and Frankie Ballard. This summer he will even be joining Sam Hunt for a few tour dates this summer!

Alec already has some serious buzz about his music and I have a feeling we will be seeing a lot of him in the future.

Be sure to check out his website, YouTube page, Facebook page, and listen to his music on Spotify or Itunes.

You can say that you listened to him way back when!
